Welcome
The Jackson County Animal Shelter is operated
by the Jackson County Department of Public Health.
The purpose of the Animal Shelter is animal control
and rabies control. The shelter also provides
adoption services, picks up stray animals, and
handles all animal bites.
The Animal Shelter is open Monday through Friday
from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (We are always closed for
lunch from 12:00 to 1:30 PM.) If you are bitten
by an animal or have another animal emergency
after hours, contact Jackson County Dispatch (828-586-1911).
The Animal Shelter offers a volunteer program,
administered through the Department of Public
Health, in which volunteers assist with bathing
adoptable pets, generally socializing the animals
and sometimes cleaning cages. They also assist
with fund raising and clerical work.
NOTE: The Jackson County Animal Shelter
is NOT affiliated with Jackson County Humane Society,
which is a no-kill foster network. For more information
about the Humane Society, visit their web site:
